The Camden County,
Missouri Sheriff's Office is a full-service law enforcement agency enforcing
State of Missouri Statutes. The department has three distinct operations. They
are: Administration, Operations and Corrections. Each having very distinct
divisions, Administration has Communications, Records, Civil Process and
E-911/Mapping and Addressing. Operations deals with Patrol, Horseshoe Bend COPS
District, Investigations, Court Security, Community Resource Officers and Animal
Control. Corrections deals with Detention and Transport of all incarcerated
inmates from all Police Agencies in Camden County. With Special Operations
including Crisis Action Team (CAT), K9 and Camden County Emergency Response
Unit.
Currently, the
Sheriff’s Office employs ninety-eight full-time personnel with twenty-six
additional reserve deputies. Of the ninety-eight employees there are twenty-two
deputies assigned to the patrol division, comprising of six squads on twelve
hour watches, patrolling 655 square miles. The population of Camden County as of
the last census in 2000 was 37,051 residents. During the summer months, the
population is estimated to be 100,000 tourists per day.
Spring 1996, the
Sheriff's Office added two K-9s to the department's manpower, a black lab
trained in narcotics detection, and an Imported European German Shepherd trained
in narcotics detection, tracking, and handler protection. Summer 2005, the
Sheriff’s Office added two Imported European German Shepherds. Each being unique
in their own ways, as one is trained in explosive detection, the other in
narcotics and apprehension of felony suspects. All the K-9's have been
successful in the eradication of narcotics or detection of explosives within and
outside of Camden County. Both are Commissioned Deputies.
As of January 1, 1997
Camden County was designated as a First Class County in the State of Missouri,
which is based on valuation of property. The designation will make for expansion
of additional administrative offices, the addition of a second Associate Circuit
Court Judge, a full-time Auditor, and a full-time Prosecutor.
The Camden County
Sheriff's Office Crisis Action Team (CAT) consists of designated deputies who
have been specially trained in the use of special weapons and tactics. The
mission of the CAT is to provide a ready response to situations beyond the
capabilities of normally equipped and trained deputies. The Crisis Action Team
(CAT) was formed and began operations September 1997.
