Priorities for the Future
1. Provide more services (diabetes screening, blood
pressure checks, cholesterol checks, lab draws by physician order) for
the increasing number of retirees. Median age for Missouri is 36.1
years and for Camden County 45.2 years.
2. Food borne/waterborne disease control with more
than 200 restaurants, 100 lodging facilities and 75 food/convenience
stores, risk for communicable diseases needs to be closely monitor.
Proper education and training for food handlers will be of paramount
importance. Consideration of a county ordinance for this
training/education will be necessary.
3. Access to health care. Most physicians are
running at full capacity and book appointments in advance.
Transportation from rural parts of the county is a problem.
Emergency room visits remain high partly because access to care in acute
situations cannot be obtained because of high costs, lack of
transportation and no insurance issues. Dental care is
non-existent without insurance or the means to pay for needed care.
